Putting the Bui in Build.

Hi there — my name is Allen Bui and I'm a software engineer based in the vibrant city of New York. I'm passionate about building products that people love and am constantly pushing myself to learn and grow. Currently, I'm part of the engineering team at Movable Ink where I focus on building internal tools and making our developers more productive.

Beyond building software, I find joy in exploring New York's diverse neighborhoods and soaking in the city's energy. When I'm not roaming around, you can find me snapping shots of landscapes and cityscapes whenever the opportunity arises, or sharing cozy moments at the park with my adorable dog, Raya.

Experience

A collection of my present and previous professional experiences: dive into my journey of building user-centric products, enhancing developer experiences, and the projects that have influenced my growth as a software engineer.

At Movable Ink, I build and maintain internal tools to increase developer productivity. In this role, I touch a variety of different technologies and work on many types of projects – from re-architecting a legacy web application to a more modern stack, to setting up CI/CD pipelines, to building out a quality assurance tool that helps developers catch bugs. I work cross functionally with different teams to understand their pain points, discuss design and potential solutions, and drive the project to effectively achieve our objective. I'm lucky to work with such a talented team of leaders, engineers and designers, and I'm always excited to see what we will build next.

During my time at Salesforce, I worked on the revenue data analytics team. My greatest achievement was automating our entire team's workflow by migrating from manual Excel spreadsheets to automated daily ran Python scripts. This saved our team over 20 hours a week and allowed us to focus on more important tasks. Day to day, I built and maintained data visualization dashboards that were frequently used by our executive and leadership team. I also built data integrations and data pipelines to seamlessly transfer data between multiple applications, ensuring data integrity and accuracy. I fell in love with data and programming in this role, and I feel very fortunate to have a team that not only listened to my new ideas, but trusted me to lead these initiatives.

LinkedIn was my first job out of college, and to be perfectly candid – I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. All I knew at the time I was eager to learn and soak up as much knowledge as I could. And soak up knowledge I did, because during my time at LinkedIn, I learned how to process data with MySQL, built dashboards within Salesforce, and became a Microsoft Excel wizard. Additionally, I strengthened my aptitude for effective communication, time optimization, and achieving collective success within teams. From my experience at LinkedIn, I've come to understand the importance of fostering strong connections because above all else, I've learned the the relationships you cultivate matter.
